Cold Embrace

As I stand at the water’s edge, I contemplate my own life. Is it worth holding on to a crumbling dream? Is it worth it to see others happy when I’m wallowing in despair? The freezing water calls to me. No more sadness. No more pain. Just sweet relief from all the anguish.
But what of those whom I leave behind, I ask of the river.
They don’t care about you. They never have. They never will. Not like I do.
Join me.
As the tears flow from my eyes, I jump.
Wrapping my body in its cold embrace.
